Interest in External Streaming Peripheral for Theta S

Postby GilbertAmine » 14 Mar 2016, 00:35

HI Guys,
I am with a startup that is considering developing a portable, low-cost hardware device that connects to the Theta S's HDMI / USB ports and stream live 1920x1080 video to leading CDNs. We are considering providing some 360-specific features such as H.265 encoding, etc. Do you guys think that there would be a market for such a product? What features would you like to see. Our target user price is under $300. We know that Theta supports live streaming through USB to smartphones, but many of them don't have USB host capability.
If such a box exists or someone is working on it, we'd like to use it and not develop new hardware. Your thoughts? Thank you.

I think the challenge will be to provide a stitched equirectangular output. AFAIK that's the only format usable for 360° stream players.
