ND filters or other methods to decrease sensitivity

Postby heckendr » 14 Sep 2015, 22:23

Hello all,

As many people are using the Theta for HDR acquisition (as I am) I wonder if anyone has experimented with techniques for extending the exposure range at the bright end. The lens/sensor/shutter seems suitable for captures in dark conditions and interiors but easily clips in outdoor settings.

The usual approach would be to use ND filters once the lens has been stopped down / shutter speed increased as far as possible. Obviously the physical design of the Theta makes this challenging but presumably it would be possible to:
- add flat ND filters between the sensors and lenses (permanent modification)
- use the new hard case / dome to mount some kind of ND filter film around the camera.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Daniel
