While PTGui is a great tool it's primary purpose is for stitching multiple images into a pano.

PanoVR (at least beta ver 5) will perform automatic straightening of Theta/Theta S images. You don't have to run the stills through the Ricoh software.

PanoVR also is great for things like tripod removal or fixing images. You can select a portion of the image and edit in Photoshop and perform functions like content aware fill. Really makes getting rid of the tripod or the 'giant hand' very useful.

Hello,

I've just come across this post, and I was wondering if it were possible to add my app "TurnMe Panorama". It allow to see 360 pictures and videos, with Cardboard and Chromecast support:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bezine.panosphere

Thanks!

Yes, this is true. But it's really versatile - let me explain ...
I'm a long-time user of PTGui and have been doing both spherical panoramas as well rectilinear gigapixel stitches. In addition, I use it for all kind of fancy perspective transformations such as 'little planets' and 'rabbit holes' and publishing the resulting panoramas to the web.
The transformations and the web publishing can be utilized for the THETA's images as well, so I don't have to change my established workflow and toolset.
However, completely new to me is 360° video as created by the THETA. Unfortunately, my video editing suite doesn't support 360° very well, so I have to change my workflow for doing e.g. transformations on the video.
Again, PTGui comes to rescue! The original video is exported by the NLE frame by frame. Then PTGui's batch builder creates a project for each frame which is fed through a shell script modifying parameters in order to e.g. change transformation over time. These project files are processed by the batch processor. Finally, all transformed images are re-imported into the NLE.
OK, this is far from perfectly supporting the creative process as it is not interactive. But I don't have to build-up a completely new tool chain. :D
